You’ve probably heard about how wonderful and beneficial avocado is to your body when eaten, but did you know that topical use of it’s oil has vast benefits to offer your skin?  Here’s just a few facts about avocado oil and why I simply must use it in several of our  NEOS skin care products.

Avocado oil (Persea gratissima oil) comes from the pulp of avocado fruit that is usually expressed using cold pressed methods.  It’s a rich, easily penetrating oil that is full of nutritive and therapeutic components which can be compared in part to those of olive oil.

For instance, it contains more than 20% essential unsaturated fatty acids, which are vital to skin structure and health but not naturally produced by the body. EFA‘s are core components of both lipids and sebum (our body’s natural oils).  These are needed to promote cell function and to decrease systemic inflammation.  Because it is so compatible with the skin’s natural lipids and sebum, it absorbs quite readily, doesn’t clog the pores and doesn’t leave behind that unpleasant slip and slide greasiness.  If you’re like me, you hate that oily after-feel that often accompanies moisturizing products.

Have you ever experienced this?  You find yourself applying lotions, creams or oils several times a day, but your skin still feels tight or dry, is itchy, looks dull and is generally uncomfortable.  Here’s why.  Our skin needs many nutrients to remain strong, healthy and to function properly in perfect synergy.  It does little good to slather on all those moisturizing products if they just sit ON the skin instead of being absorbed into it or if they don’t nourish your skin properly.  That’s equivelent to feeding your skin a regular diet of junk food.  YIKES!

Avocado oil contains proteins, beta-carotene, lecithin and potassium along with vitamins A, C, D and E.   These are a necessity for overall good skin health, elasticity, vitality and to help even out skin tones as well as to combat oxidation which contributes to the premature aging of skin. Yep, that means fine lines and wrinkles, ladies and gents!  It nourishes AND fights visible signs of aging?  Yippee!  Happy dance time!

Avocado oil is high in sterolins.  Sterolins are compounds extracted from plants and used in the creation of dextrose. Their role is to properly absorb fat (the good fats for good health).  Proper absorption helps  improves the natural defenses of the skin.  But that’s not all.  Because of the high sterolin content, this awesome oil helps reduce the appearance of age spots, stimulates and assists in the production of collagen and aids in the healing and reduction of scars, just to name a few.  Are you impressed yet?

We all want soft, supple skin, right?  Avocado oil has a natural hydrating ability and is deeply absorbed by the squamous layer of  the skin. Because of its chemical properties and its ability to retain water,  avocado oil acts as an emollient, and promotes soft and supple tissue.  This makes it a good choice for those with dry or itchy skin.

Avocado oil helps to encourage skin cell turn over and the natural regeneration process that slows down as we age. Old, dead skin cells that hang around too long cause skin to be dull, lifeless, discolored with uneven skin tones and discourage moisture absorption.   Avocado also helps to strengthen skin layers that are thinned by dietary factors, environment and age thus making it more resilent and less prone to visible lines and wrinkles, toxin invasion, irritation and injury.  All of this makes it an excellent option for mature skin.  WooHoo!  This just keeps getting better and better for those of us over 40, doesn’t it?

Because of these fabulous attributes,  dehydrated skin drinks up avocado oil goodness like a sponge.  Undernourished skin can be brought back to a more youthful, healthier condition in a very short amount of time. Mature skin takes to it like a duck to water.  Awesomeness!

Can you see why I love this oil and consider it an invaluable tool in my skin care arsenal?  And you know I have to share what I love so I’ve formulated a new body moisturizer that utilizes this awesomeness for all to enjoy….because you deserve it.  This rich and silky soft Body & Hand Lotion  also harnesses the decadence of mango butter and antioxidant power of olive oil, both of which I will talk about in detail here soon.

Here’s freshly made peek at the lotion after it’s final whipping.

Don’t you want to dive into the scrumptiousness?
